Knocky Music on YouTube
Hi everyone, just announcing to the world that I uploaded the Knocky soundtrack onto YouTube.
For those who don’t know (which is approximately 99.999999999% of the world’s population), Knocky was a game we released back in 2013. It was a reimagining of the classic Nok Hockey board game, except with Tron-inspired aesthetics and online multiplayer. It had real potential.
This was the first non-student game project I ever released. We managed to get around 1,000 downloads before… nothing. Unfortunately, since the programmer kept the codebase on his personal laptop and disappeared to wherever people go after college, Knocky became defunct when we couldn’t update it for Apple’s system changes.
Back then, we had plans to expand it with cosmetics for pucks and boards, Mario Kart-style power-ups, ranking and leaderboards, and other ideas to make the game more chaotic and competitive. But at the time, I didn’t know how to program; I was just the artist, designer, and musician for the game.
Losing the ability to continue working on Knocky pushed me to learn how to program. I realized I wanted more creative control over my projects and didn’t want development bottlenecks deciding whether a game lived or died.
It sucks that Knocky never got the chance to become a better version of itself, but at least the music survived. And because I own it, I can use it for anything I want *hint* hint
